Bamboo is the best answer to sustainable flooring, clothing and paper.
Or is it?
Boris: This one raises my bristles. Snout to the ground, I've got questions—but few answers. No manufacturer can yet claim that their bamboo fabric/paper/flooring, etc. is produced from bamboo grown on environmentally sustainable farms.
The intense emphasis on profits and lack of transparency in the businesses involved (many in China) and the lack of regulation may mean that important, diverse forests are being clear cut to grow bamboo.
Bottom line? Buyer beware. BORIS DOESN'T BUY IT. YET.
Until there is more transparency and clear standards are set, be a cautious consumer. That bamboo may have been planted in lieu of rain forest, which is not good for any species' eco-future, whether man, boar, bird, etc.
